Sinus Infection Remedies

|

Anybody having endured a sinus infection would surely understand that sinus symptoms can be debilitating. A stuffy nose with chronic nasal congestion, facial pain and discomfort, persistent sore throat with thick, glue-like mucus are just a few of the many signs and symptoms that something is not right with your sinuses. Here are some home sinus infection remedies that are highly recommended for sinus sufferers:
1. Sinus irrigation or commonly known as nasal irrigation - Irrigating your sinuses frequently minimizes discomfort as well as reducing inflammation of the mucous membrane within the sinus passages. This will help to reduce the frequency of cases of sinusitis. Sinus irrigation is done through flushing a mixture of water and sodium bicarbonate or using sea salt through your sinus pathways to thoroughly clean out all the bacteria along with the excess mucus during an infection.
You can buy nasal irrigation products such as a neti pot at health stores and the majority of grocery stores. If you cannot find a suitable product, it is possible to prepare a saline solution by mixing a teaspoon of sea salt with 8 ounces of water. Alternatively, you could use two teaspoons of sodium bicarbonate and mix it with a cup of water.
This solution should be used in conjunction with a plastic syringe to draw up the solution and pumped it into one of the nostrils slowly. Then repeat the same process with the other nostril. Remember to tilt your head so that you pump the solution into the topmost nostril and the water will flow out from the lower nostril.
2. Sipping Hot Tea - Tea drinking is excellent in clearing the sinuses by enhancing sinus drainage! Mucus becomes thinner and is easier to drain while you breathe in the hot steam. Peppermint and Chamomile teas are therapeutic during a sinus infection.
3. Inhaling Steam - Place a pot of very hot steaming water on the table. Cover your head with a large towel and lean over the hot steam and breathe in and out naturally. Steam inhalation also helps in thinning the mucus inside the nasal passages and allows more effective sinus drainage.
4. Intake of herbal supplements - Garlic is known as a herbal antibiotic. Try eating more of this when you have sinusitis to combat the bacteria causing it. Taking Echinacea before or for the duration of sinusitis will help with your body's immunity.
5. Multivitamins - We succumb to a sinus infection because our body's health is possibly not up to mark due to the stresses we come across during the day. It is highly recommended that vitamin dietary supplements can furnish us with nutrients and that is essentially missing from the meals we take. Vitamin C has got immune enhancing traits that assist fight infection in our body.
6. Hot Towel Compresses - Damp a clean hand towel using reasonably hot water and place this over your face during overwhelming sinus pressure will help improve some levels of the suffering you are experiencing.
